What Are COP and EER?
The Coefficient Of Performance (COP) is based on the amount of power consumed by a system, compared to the power output of that system. The higher the COP, the more efficient the system.
Energy Efficiency Rating (EER) measures cooling efficiency and is calculated by dividing a product’s BTU output by the watts of power it uses. Rule of thumb―higher is better.
What Is Open vs. Closed Loop?
An open loop system has an average water temperature of 52 degrees and uses the water well pump to deliver the water to the unit. A closed loop system averages 40 degrees in the winter, 70 degrees in the summer, and uses a small dedicated circulating pump. Factoring in these minor differences, the cost of operation is nearly the same.
