Should You Worry About Duct Sweating?

There’s nothing like stepping into a cool, comfortable home in South Jersey after a hot summer day outside. But if you’ve noticed condensation or dripping water on your home’s ductwork, it might be cause for concern. This phenomenon, known by professionals as “duct sweating,” isn’t just a minor annoyance—it’s a problem you should address as soon as you can. Today we’re going to explain why duct sweating happens, the problems it can cause in your house, and what you can do to fix the issue.

Why Do AC Ducts Sweat?

Duct sweating is the result of condensation. As cold air from your air conditioner moves through your ducts, it lowers the temperature of the metal ductwork. When that ductwork comes into contact with warmer, more humid air surrounding it, the water vapor condenses on the metal and turns to water. This is very similar to how a cold glass of iced tea sweats on a warm day.

Why Sweating Ducts Are Bad for Your Home

Excessive moisture in the home isn’t just about wet ducts—it can lead to:

  • Home Moisture Damage: Constant condensation can lead to water pooling, potentially damaging your flooring or ceilings.
  • Reduced IAQ (Indoor Air Quality): With increased moisture, mold and mildew can grow, decreasing the quality of air in your home and triggering allergies or other health concerns.

How to Spot a Ductwork Condensation Problem in Your Home

There are several signs homeowners should be aware of that they have a duct sweating problem:

  • Moisture or wet spots around the ducts: This is the most direct sign of duct sweating.
  • Moldy or musty odors: The smell of mold likely indicates that you’ve had hidden ductwork moisture problems for some time.
  • Peeling paint or wallpaper near ductwork: This could be due to moisture damage from nearby duct sweating.

Bovio Rubino Service’s Duct Sweating Solutions

Properly insulating your ducts means putting up a barrier between your cold metal ductwork and the warm, humid air around them. This reduces the chance of condensation. Ductwork insulation can also help prevent wasted energy, saving you money and making your South Jersey home more comfortable.

Dehumidifier Installation

By reducing the overall humidity in your home, you reduce the amount of moisture in your indoor air, lowering the likelihood of duct sweating. A dehumidifier ensures your air remains dry, thus lessening the chance of condensation on AC ducts.

Through a Competitive Application Process South Jersey Rising Juniors and Seniors Selected for Exposure to Careers, Entrepreneurship and Wellness

The Bovio Rubino Service Young Women’s Leadership Conference takes place on Wednesday, July 15 at the HVAC and Plumbing Services company’s headquarters in Voorhees.

The 13 South Jersey young women selected to attend the Conference are all rising juniors and seniors at local high schools. They completed applications and were chosen through a competitive process. At the Conference they will gain exposure to career paths, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, problem solving and mind and body wellness. A community service project benefitting Cathedral Kitchen in Camden is also planned.

Subject matter experts presenting at the Young Women’s Leadership Conference in addition to Hines include CEO of ACCU Staffing Elaine M. Damm, Senior Investment Manager at Aberdeen plc Zoe McCormick, Jennifer Nagle, Vice President of External Affairs and Special Projects, Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, Senior Product Manager at SimpliSafe Molly Nugiel, Founder of Higher Minds Laura Rubino and Dr. Barbara Winfield, owner of Family Practice Associates of Voorhees.

After being named one of the top 12 Women in HVAC in America in 2025 by ACHR News, Hines made advancing young women the Bovio Rubino Service community case for 2026. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) women made up 1.5 percent of HVAC mechanics and installers in 2021. Even fewer women own and run HVAC and Plumbing service companies independently. Hines had few women role models coming up in the business.

“I want to give young women every opportunity for success as they advance in life, both in their careers and as citizens,” Hines, a Mom of two daughters in college and high school, said. “As the owner of a thriving, independent, family-owned business in South Jersey, it’s my way of paying it forward. We are very busy designing the Conference ensuring it will have high impact on the young women in attendance.”

The Bovio Rubino Service Young Women’s Leadership Conference is the program highlight of the HVAC and Plumbing Service company’s 2026 community cause “LeadHERship in ’26” which advances opportunities for young women through career readiness, entrepreneurship, community betterment and a personal health and wellness mindset.
