Transitioning From Winter to Spring with a Heat Pump

A key reason many South Jersey homeowners opt to install a heat pump in their homes is that it’s a single system for both heating and cooling. And though preventative maintenance is important for all heating and cooling systems, it’s especially critical for heat pumps since they work year-round and are subject to more regular wear and tear.

As we transition from winter to spring, there are a few key steps Jersey homeowners can take to ensure their heat pump runs optimally and efficiently in the warmer months ahead. Read on to learn more about heat pump maintenance for spring from the trusted experts at Bovio Rubino Service that know New Jersey heating and cooling, like nobody’s business.

DIY Spring Heat Pump Maintenance

There are some components of spring heat pump maintenance that homeowners can do themselves. Here are a few key spring maintenance tasks for homeowners:

  • Remove any debris or obstructions surrounding the outdoor unit, leaving at least 18 inches of space to ensure proper airflow.
  • Keep an eye on nearby plants and foliage as they begin to grow during the spring. Keep them trimmed back to maintain adequate room for airflow.
  • Change or clean your heat pump’s air filter each month.

Regular Preventative Maintenance

Though there are some tasks that homeowners can perform themselves when it comes to spring HVAC maintenance, others are best left to the experts, like the team at Bovio Rubino Service. As mentioned earlier, since your heat pump runs year-round and is a single system for both heating and cooling, regularly-scheduled tune-ups are key.

During a tune-up with Bovio Rubino Service, one of our specially trained technicians will carefully inspect every component of your heat pump system–including the ducts, blower, filters, and coil–to ensure each is working optimally. By conducting regular tune-ups, our technicians can identify and diagnose problems early, so they don’t worsen or cause more significant problems down the line.

Many homeowners wonder when it’s best to schedule a heat pump tune-up. A good rule of thumb is to schedule preventative maintenance once before heating season and once before cooling season. In other words, spring and fall are optimal. By scheduling a tune-up during each of these seasons, homeowners can rest assured that their heat pump will work properly and efficiently when under heavy use during summer and winter.

Applications for the 2026 Bovio Rubino Service Young Women’s Leadership Conference are Live

South Jersey Rising Junior and Senior High School Young Women are Encouraged to Apply

Voorhees, New Jersey – April 1, 2026 – Young women going into their junior and senior years of high school who are thinking about their futures are encouraged to apply to attend the 2026 Bovio Rubino Service Young Women’s Leadership Conference on Wednesday, July 15 in Voorhees.

The application to attend the Young Women’s Leadership Conference is now live and available through Friday, May 1 by midnight. The Conference is part of “LeadHERship in ’26,” this year’s Bovio Rubino Service community cause which “seeks to advance the opportunities of young women through career readiness, entrepreneurship, community betterment and a personal health and wellness mindset.”

Speakers, workshops and discussions are part of the one-day Conference in July. The opportunity to present an original idea that betters the community after the Conference will be presented to the Conference attendees.

Investing in young women is an idea close to the heart of Bovio Rubino Service president Angela Rubino Hines, a Mom of two young women and a leader amongst very few women in the HVAC and Plumbing service industry. In 2025 Hines was named one of the country’s “Top 12 Women in HVAC” by ACHR News. While she’s humble about the success she has achieved it inspires her to encourage the next generation of women leaders.

“We look forward to investing in young women this year at our Conference, through creative programs with our team members and through partnerships with nonprofit organizations. ‘LeadHERship in ’26’ is our way of giving back and inspiring the next generation of women leaders right here in South Jersey where we live and where our customers live.”
