Is It Time for an AC Replacement?
Deciding whether to repair an aging air conditioner or invest in a new one can be a tough decision. While a repair might seem less expensive upfront, continuing to fix an old, inefficient unit can be a costly mistake in the long run. Recognizing the signs of a failing system can help you make a proactive choice.
Consider a replacement if you notice any of the following:
- Your AC is Over 10-12 Years Old: Even if it's still running, an older air conditioner is significantly less efficient than modern units, costing you more every month.
- Steadily Rising Energy Bills: An AC loses efficiency as it ages, forcing it to run longer and work harder to cool your home. This directly translates to higher utility costs.
- Frequent or Costly Repairs: If you're facing repair bills that amount to a large fraction of a new unit's cost, it's more economical to invest in a reliable new system.
- Your System Uses R-22 Freon: This refrigerant is being phased out due to environmental concerns, making it extremely expensive and difficult to source for repairs. A new system uses modern, efficient R-410A refrigerant.
- It Fails to Keep You Cool: If your AC struggles to maintain a comfortable temperature on hot days, or if some rooms are much warmer than others, your unit is likely undersized or failing.
Upgrading your system is an investment that pays you back with improved comfort, lower bills, and reliable performance.

Our Whole-Home Process for a Perfect Installation
At Bovio Rubino Service, we know that true comfort and efficiency come from treating the house as a single, interconnected system. A new air conditioner is a powerful component, but its performance is directly affected by your home's insulation, air leakage, and ductwork. That's why we use our signature "Whole-Home Process," rooted in building science.
Our meticulous process ensures your new AC is the perfect fit:
- Building Science Assessment: Our BPI-certified home auditors can evaluate your home's "envelope" first. We look for issues like poor attic insulation or air leaks that cause energy loss and force your AC to work harder than it should.
- Accurate Load Calculation: We perform a scientific load calculation to determine the precise size and capacity of the air conditioner your home needs. This prevents the efficiency losses and comfort problems caused by oversized or undersized units.
- System Design and Selection: Based on our findings, we'll help you select the ideal high-efficiency system. We treat you like family, providing honest options that fit your comfort goals and budget without high-pressure sales tactics.
- NATE-Certified Installation: Our highly trained, NATE-certified technicians will install your new system according to the highest industry standards, ensuring every connection is secure and every component is optimized for performance.
- System Commissioning and Testing: After installation, we don't just turn it on. We test refrigerant levels, check airflow, and calibrate the system to ensure it's running at peak efficiency, delivering on its promises.
This thorough process is how we deliver on our 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Different Heat Pump Compressor TypesWhat’s the difference between single, two-stage, and variable speed compressors? Single-stage compressors have one output speed – high. Two-stage compressors operate most often at about 65% of total capacity, but full capacity during extreme temps. A variable-speed compressor has a fan motor that can move at different speeds and controls the amount of air dispersed in a home. A single-stage unit may offer the lowest initial investment, but it can cause high monthly energy bills. A two-stage unit is quieter and more efficient, while variable speed units are the most intelligent on the market and can save you big on energy costs over their lifetime.

Why Should I Choose Energy Star Qualified Products?ENERGY STAR® qualified products are great because they are scientifically proven to use less energy than traditional systems. This will not only help you reduce your energy bills, but will also help reduce your carbon footprint, doing your part to help the environment!

Why Is My Gas Furnace Producing Yellow Flames?A clear blue flame is a sign of a healthy system. If yours has changed color, it’s usually a symptom of a dirty burner or heat exchanger. Never leave a yellow flame unchecked, though, because it could also be a sign of a natural gas leak.
Why the Installer Matters More Than the Brand
While choosing a quality air conditioner brand is important, industry studies consistently show that the quality of the installation has a greater impact on the system's performance, efficiency, and lifespan. An expert installation ensures you get the value you paid for, while a poor one can undermine even the best equipment.
The most critical factor is proper sizing. A unit that's too large will cycle on and off frequently, failing to dehumidify your home and wasting energy. One that's too small will run constantly and struggle to keep you cool. Only a professional load calculation can determine the correct size.
From ensuring the correct refrigerant charge to properly sealing ductwork, every step of the installation process is crucial. A certified professional installation is also required by most manufacturers to keep your warranty valid, protecting your investment for years to come.

Robert was great! He switched out all of my leaky valves that were under my sink and fixed our dishwasher hookup. He was super friendly and great with my dog as well. Not only did he inform me of the missing handle on my water shut off which the township didn’t bother letting me know about when they switched my meter out but he was able to use one of the handles that were removed from under the sink so if I need to I can shut my water off. He did all of this in under two hours for a reasonable price. Would highly recommend it!- Michelle B.
