5 Signs You Should Call an HVAC Professional

Whether you’re having problems with your furnace in the winter or your air conditioner in the summer, HVAC issues can be frustrating for any homeowner. While it may be tempting to diagnose and fix the issue yourself, HVAC systems like ACs and heat pumps are complex! Without experience and expertise, repairing it on your own is not only dangerous—it can worsen the problem as well.

At Bovio Rubino Service, we’ve been doing right by South Jersey homeowners since 1974 with our comprehensive and high quality HVAC services. From the everyday to the emergencies, our team can solve your AC or furnace problem. Let’s look over 5 of the most common HVAC problems that require professional help:

  1. Your HVAC is Making Strange Noises

Your heating and cooling systems can make a variety of noises, and each different sound can point to a different problem. For example, squealing usually points to a loose or broken belt, while a hissing sound can mean a refrigerant leak within your AC.

The best way to get to the source of the noises coming from your HVAC is to call the experts at Bovio Rubino Service for an inspection so our team can properly identify what’s causing the problem.

  1. Your Energy Bills Have Increased

When your heating and cooling costs rise without an increase in your usage or rates, your HVAC system is usually to blame. HVAC units tend to get less efficient as they age, but an increase in energy costs could also mean that a crucial component to the system has worn down.

With a home energy audit, we’ll go through your whole-home system—from your insulation to your HVAC performance—and help you pinpoint exactly what’s causing your energy bills to rise.

  1. There’s Little to No Airflow Coming From Your Vents

Limited airflow coming from your vents after turning on your HVAC can be caused by leaky ductwork or a buildup of debris—both of which can be harmful to your indoor air quality. Poor airflow can also be one of the first signs of a failing compressor in an air conditioner, so it’s important to get it looked out before it becomes a bigger issue.

If you’ve changed your air filter, yet the problem persists, call Bovio Rubino Service to get to the bottom of the issue. If your HVAC isn’t causing the lack of airflow, we can perform duct cleaning services and help you breathe easier.

  1. Your HVAC is Short Cycling

Short cycling is when your HVAC is constantly turning off and on in order to reach your desired temperature. Short cycling can add unnecessary wear and tear on your system and be caused by a dirty air filter, poor electrical connections, refrigerant issues, or even a problem with your thermostat.

An HVAC that’s constantly turning off and on can also be a sign your system is starting to fail, so call our team for heating and cooling repair and we’ll find the best and most cost-effective solution.

  1. You’ve Noticed Leaks Around Your HVAC

The most common cause of leaks in an AC or heat pump is a clogged condensation line–which can make your home feel more humid than normal and promote mold growth within your system.

HVAC leaks should always be solved by a professional HVAC technician because they can very easily and quickly turn into a more serious problem.

Through a Competitive Application Process South Jersey Rising Juniors and Seniors Selected for Exposure to Careers, Entrepreneurship and Wellness

The Bovio Rubino Service Young Women’s Leadership Conference takes place on Wednesday, July 15 at the HVAC and Plumbing Services company’s headquarters in Voorhees.

The 13 South Jersey young women selected to attend the Conference are all rising juniors and seniors at local high schools. They completed applications and were chosen through a competitive process. At the Conference they will gain exposure to career paths, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, problem solving and mind and body wellness. A community service project benefitting Cathedral Kitchen in Camden is also planned.

Subject matter experts presenting at the Young Women’s Leadership Conference in addition to Hines include CEO of ACCU Staffing Elaine M. Damm, Senior Investment Manager at Aberdeen plc Zoe McCormick, Jennifer Nagle, Vice President of External Affairs and Special Projects, Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, Senior Product Manager at SimpliSafe Molly Nugiel, Founder of Higher Minds Laura Rubino and Dr. Barbara Winfield, owner of Family Practice Associates of Voorhees.

After being named one of the top 12 Women in HVAC in America in 2025 by ACHR News, Hines made advancing young women the Bovio Rubino Service community case for 2026. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) women made up 1.5 percent of HVAC mechanics and installers in 2021. Even fewer women own and run HVAC and Plumbing service companies independently. Hines had few women role models coming up in the business.

“I want to give young women every opportunity for success as they advance in life, both in their careers and as citizens,” Hines, a Mom of two daughters in college and high school, said. “As the owner of a thriving, independent, family-owned business in South Jersey, it’s my way of paying it forward. We are very busy designing the Conference ensuring it will have high impact on the young women in attendance.”

The Bovio Rubino Service Young Women’s Leadership Conference is the program highlight of the HVAC and Plumbing Service company’s 2026 community cause “LeadHERship in ’26” which advances opportunities for young women through career readiness, entrepreneurship, community betterment and a personal health and wellness mindset.
